The Two Purposes Of Having A Swimming Pool Cover

You have made a heavy investment in an in ground swimming pool and it is now important to keep that pool in good order. Whether your in ground pool is vinyl, granite or fiberglass, with use and the elements it will need maintenance. Part of that maintenance requires you to keep that swimming pool clean in order for you, family and friends to have a comfortable and healthy swim.

Next check your water hose that the automatic pool cleaner is attached to. If it is too short your unit may be having trouble traversing the entire pool. Also check it for cracks in it to see if that is the source of your problem.

Now that the water is circulating properly, good filtration removes dirt, debris & even certain large bacteria & algae. Sand filters remove the largest particles, Cartridge filters remove smaller particles & DE filters remove the smallest. Filter your water for 8 to 12 hours every day from opening to closing. Use a timer so that you don't forget and save money. By the way, for the best filtration, be sure to chemically clean your filter about twice each season to remove accumulations of greases, oils & other swimmer and environmental waste that clog your pool filter & that routine backwashing & rinsing will NOT remove.



The first four items are considered a must and should be kept on hand at all times. The following suggestions are optional items which are nice to have available but not best pool cleaner always needed.

Blow off with a blower as described above. Then, with someone helping you, grab a corner at the shallow end and uniformly drag the cover from the pool. Clean and dry the cover then store it in a dry location.

Some robotic cleaners have a remote control to allow you to guide it clean the areas which may have missed. Though this type of cleaner is a bit expensive, ranging from $500-$2000, it's a very good investment.
